“My team and I are always looking for ways to show bartenders and at-home cocktail lovers how to elevate their craft. With this course, we want to help students up their skill set by inspiring their own creativity. Creating flavor infusions is one way to truly transform a cocktail, and we want students to learn thoroughly through step-by-step processes that they can follow along with at home. This is just the jumping off point… It’s time to explore the outer limits of what’s possible in cocktail creation.”

You can infuse any number of flavors into alcohol so long as you have time and a sealed container. Alcohol acts as a catalyst, pulling flavors from the ingredients added to it; slowly over time, the alcohol absorbs the flavor, which changes its profile.
Yes, some ingredients can be toxic when used in large quantities. Ingredients like quinine or Cinchona bark, cherry pits, and even nutmeg can be harmful without proper precaution. Make sure to research your ingredients first; Camper English’s cocktailsafe.org is a great guide.
All of them! You can infuse spirits, liqueurs, Amari, and even vermouths. However, some can be more difficult to infuse than others due to their more inherently complex flavors. The more neutral the alcohol’s flavor, the easier it is to infuse.
Yes. A notable example is vermouths or other wine-based liqueurs. Oxidation will happen if you use typical alcohol-infusing methods, so you can’t use heat or standard containers. For total control, you need to vacuum-seal the infusion in order to pull all the excess air out of it.
This fully depends on what the ingredients are. If you’re using base spirits (40% ABV or more), you can store them in a cool dry place or refrigerate them. However, if you are using wine-based vermouths or liqueurs, you will need to store them in the fridge at all times.
You can use almost anything that comes to mind! There are even infusions made with bacon fat, milk, or wax. All the possibilities you have with cooking, you have with alcohol infusions.
