Description

If you’re looking for the ultimate workhorse of a cocktail shaker, this is it. This is the Boston shaker that launched A Bar Above's barware brand in 2016 and has 3,200+ reviews and a 5-star rating on Amazon. It's the perfect combination of a water-tight seal while being easy to open and perfectly weighted. Meet your next - and last - Boston shaker.

Our weighted shaker is made from high-quality, food-grade stainless steel 304. That means no weird rust spots appearing – the first or thousandth time through the dishwasher.

Circle-welded: Look closely at the bottom of the shaker. See that weld? We had our factory weld it all the way around (not just in three tiny spots like the other guys). That weight isn't going fall off, period.

Perfectly paired & cross-compatible: All of our cocktail shaker cups are compatible with each other. That means they nest perfectly when in storage and seal perfectly in service.

Seals tight, opens right: With a tight seal that opens when you're ready, you can make sure your drinks are shaken, not spilled.

Discover the best Boston shaker on the market. We've seen one of these bad boys make it past 10,000 drinks. Yours will, too!

Choose Your Shaker

Wondering whether you want a weighted or weighted/unweighted? We can help!

What's the difference:

Look closely at the pictures: The weighted shaker has weights welded to the bottom of both shaker cups, but the weighted/unweighted only has the weight on one side.

Why would you choose weighted / unweighted?

After years behind the bar, Chris found that the combination of one weighted and one unweighted tin is the perfect balance – the unweighted cup provides a perfect seal while the weighted cup provides a bit of rigidity to make it easy to open when you’re ready. If you are just now learning the difference, go with this one!

OK, so why would anyone choose weighted?

The double-weighted shaker is a common staple in the industry, so if you're a pro bartender, it might just be what you're used to. If you have experience with a weighted set of shakers ,then you're going to love this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Boston shaker work and what makes it different from other shakers?

A Boston shaker is a 2-piece shaker, where a cobbler shaker has 3 pieces. With the Boston shaker, you simply fill the smaller tin and fit the two cups together to form a tight seal-- then shake! Strain with a Hawthorne and/or fine strainer into your glass.

What are the advantages of using a Boston shaker over other types of shakers?

The Boston shaker has a larger capacity than other types of shakers for shaking multiple drinks at once and provides a tighter seal to prevent leaks.

What is the proper technique for sealing and shaking a Boston shaker?

After filling the smaller tin (the "cheater tin") with your ingredients, place the larger tin on top so they connect, and give the top tin a medium-strength smack to seal them. Then shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, unless otherwise directed in the recipe.

How do I clean and maintain a Boston shaker?

Our shakers are super easy to clean; just put them in the dishwasher after use, and then make sure to dry them thoroughly before storing.

Is a separate strainer required when using a Boston shaker?

While some people do open the shaker a small crack and pour their drink that way, we recommend using a Hawthorne and/or fine strainer for proper filtration.

What are some tips for avoiding leaks and spills with a Boston shaker?

If you make sure your tins are sealed (give the top one a little smack to make sure it lightly jams into the other tin), then you shouldn't have problems with leaking while shaking your cocktail. To avoid spills, make sure your shaker isn't too full, and use a bar mat to keep it stable.

What is the correct technique for opening a cocktail shaker without making a mess?

To open a cocktail shaker, use your dominant hand to hold both tins at once, the smaller tin on top. Put your pointer and middle fingers on the top tin and push as you "smack" the bottom tin from the other side with your non-dominant hand.

Best Boston shaker!

I bought a Boston shaker from Top Shelf several years ago, before the company name change. It's been my favorite of several I've owned. So, wanting another, I finally found A Bar Above is the new company name. The new one is every bit as good!

It’s awesome especially for a beginner

I just started training to be a bartender and got these to practice on. I got another brand at Williams Sonoma for a good amount of money (I just couldn’t wait to practice) and the Bar Above shakers blow those out of the water. Better seal. Easier open. It’s all so good.

Hi David!

We are happy you are enjoying your Boston Shakers !!

Cheers and happy mixing !
